On Tuesday, Oct. 18, fans gathered at the Paramount Theatre for Ingrid Michaelson’s Hell No Tour, a celebration of Michaelson’s new album, “It Doesn’t Have To Make Sense.” The buzz of excitement rippled throughout the packed theatre as 1,800 fans worked their way to their assigned seat.

AJR, an indie pop band based out of New York, opened the concert. AJR is comprised of three brothers, Adam, Jack and Ryan. The band had a rather quirky stage presence, which fueled the crowd with more excitement and anticipation for Michaelson. AJR played their hits, which were upbeat songs that pumped up the crowd.

After a brief break to change the stage set up, fans roared with applause as Michaelson took to the stage with “Light Me Up,” a slower, yet uplifting song from her new album. Michaelson performed a variety of her songs from all her albums. Some of the songs performed included “Afterlife,” “You and I” and “Maybe.”

Although most of the concert consisted of fans jamming out and singing along with Michaelson, there was a portion in which fans doubled over in laughter. In between songs, Michaelson shared a bit of her hilarious personality with her fans. Michaelson’s jokes ranged from describing her Colorado admirers as having a  youthful tiredness about them to asking her ex-boyfriend if it is okay that he is included in a song.

Michaelson discussed how she often comes across photos of herself and her band where they are two pixels and blurry because fans are snapping pictures of them moving around or the photographers are 50 miles away. In an effort to make herself look better, Michaelson and her band stepped off stage and came back dressed in crowns, tutus and feather boas and posed so fans could get the perfect shot.

Michaelson even comically mentioned why the lyric ‘I’d buy you Rogaine when you start losing all your hair’ in “The Way I Am” exists. Many fans think if you take him the way he is you wouldn’t need to buy him Rogaine. Michaelson countered this argument claiming how she would only buy him Rogaine if he felt too embarrassed to buy it himself.

Michaelson finished her set with her newest hit single, “Hell No.” Fans burst out in an uproar, mainly because there was a certain single that had yet to be played. After a solid two minutes of non-stop applause, Michaelson and her band took to the stage for an encore and played her smash hit “Girls Chase Boys.” The lights went down, but Michaelson wasn’t done yet. Surprising everyone, Michaelson and her band danced and sang to her rendition of Right Said Fred’s “I’m Too Sexy.”

Michaelson’s Hell No Tour is set to run in venues throughout the U.S. through Nov. 22.
