Nick Sauer was elected to the Board of Contingency, Marla Poklemba was appointed NSME Senator for science majors and Abdul Alnusif was appointed Off-Campus Senator at the AUSA Senate meeting last night.
Eight applicants gave presentations to the Senate and answered a series of questions posed by Senate members. Senate doors were closed for deliberation before Senate announced their decision.
Stuart Halsall, director of Ritchie Center operations, addressed Senate about creating more opportunities for students. He would like Senate’s cooperation to find out what students want and to take advantage of the expertise available at the Ritchie Center.
Halsall said, “Our goal would be to do something once a quarter.”
The Ritchie Center is now taking strides to organize a pre-party and/or post-party for the upcoming Colorado College hockey game. The Ritchie Center would cover the costs for sound and staging, which would be approximately $6,000.
Groups appealed to Senate for funding this week: Network Services, College Republicans, Order of Omega Greek Honor Society, Feed the Homeless, Fellowship of Catholic University Students, Towers Hall Counsel, Japanese Student Alliance, International Orientation Team, Model United Nations, DU Alpine Club, International Student and Scholar Services, DU Francoscope, International Film Festival, …isms Art Organization, Italian Society and Latino Student Alliance. Funding decisions will be announced next week. About $18,000 is available.
Senate was unable to reach a decision on the “Coin Machine Resolution” and will continue discussing the issue next week. The resolution said, “The 2001-2002 AUSA Senate encourages and supports that a coin machine be available in Towers, Johnson-McFarlane and Halls for use by all undergraduate students.”
Senate meetings are held every Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Room 1864, located on the second floor of Driscoll North. They are open to students and visitors.
