Men’s hockey is back on the winning track heading into its final regular season home games against St. Cloud State this weekend. The Pioneers will wrap up the regular season in North Dakota on March 1 and 2.
DU reclaimed the No. 1 ranking in the country in the USA Today/American Hockey Magzine poll after sweeping Wisconsin on the road last weekend.
Greg Barber emerged as the hero in Saturday night’s game, scoring the game-winning goal with seven seconds remaining in the third period. The score was tied 2 apiece after Lukas Dora scored on the rebound with 4:41 remaining.
During the face-off with only seconds left, Kevin Doell left the puck for Barber to score the winning goal. Goaltender Adam Berkhoel picked up the win with 21 saves.
The Pioneers came off a 5-2 win from the previous night. The Pioneers came back from a 2-1 deficit in the first period to score the last four goals of the game.
Chris Paradise struck twice in the second period to pull the Pioneers ahead of Wisconsin. Assisted by Connor James, Kevin Doell picked up a goal with 8:57 to play in the third. David Neale added to his first period goal with another goal assisted by Jon Foster. DU registered 46 shots on goal. Wade Dubielewicz stopped 33 shots.
The Pioneers remain No. 1 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, ahead of St. Cloud State by one point. Grabbing both wins this weekend will likely fulfill DU’s quest for a conference championship. Tomorrow’s game starts at 7:35. p.m. Saturday’s game is at 7:05 p.m.
