You may not have seen her yet, but you soon will as this teen diva with two first names hits the music scene head-on. She’s been riding the Internet waves and will be featured on Disney’s “Cinderella II” soundtrack.
She’s Brooke Allison-and don’t you dare call her Britney.
Allison’s first self-titled pop album was a hit with the Nickelodeon crowd, but her next album is going to switch to more of a rock feel.
“I grew up listening to rock music, so this one will have a lot more of an edge to it,” said Allison (in a roundtable with college representatives at the Brown Palace Hotel).
In this next album, she’s not only going to write all of the songs, she’ll also play guitar (she’s played guitar since she was seven).
The talented 15-year-old singer/songwriter certainly doesn’t look or act her age. After taking Internet courses this past year, Allison has switched to a different home school program. She explains that she doesn’t miss what she’s missing out on.
“I was never a normal high school student anyway. All my friends my entire life have been a lot older than I was. It’s actually a better opportunity for me, so I can get my work done and hang out with the friends I wouldn’t be able to if I were in school.”
How did she get discovered? A friend of hers put her songs on mp3.com, where a record company discovered her music.
Allison hopes that her music, in its transition from pop to rock, separates her from the other pop stars.
“I hope I get to be very original, very me,” Allison said.
And being herself includes wearing her own style of clothing, similar to other emerging stars her age.
“I’ve always had my own style,” said Allison. “I say do what you want, as long as parents don’t mind. If you think you look good in it, and your school or your parents don’t mind, then I say go for it.”
Even though Allison hasn’t been in the spotlight for very long, she’s had long enough to experience what it’s like to be stalked.
“I did an interview at a high school, and he tried to go into the high school. Then he found out that he wasn’t going to be able to do that, so he waited outside by my bus. I’m a huge fan of Starbucks, so after I went to the high school I went to Starbucks and he followed me over there. He came out and had 30 pictures copied on glossy paper.
“Then my tour manager talked to him and asked if he was going to follow us to the hotel if we hadn’t stopped at Starbucks, and he said yes he would have.”
She said the stalker was about forty years old. Yikes!
