Over the past year, the city formerly known as Cowtown has managed to draw in some of the biggest DJs in the world. And they don’t get much bigger, literally, than Carl Cox. The lovable monster and master of three turntables brought his intense music to the classic Church nightclub last Thursday.

Carl Cox is known for starting his sets with a bang and from there, the energy and vibe keep going higher and higher.

Thursday night’s performance was no different. The night began with Denver’s own Little Mike. Mike had the near-capacity crowd on their feet way before Cox even arrived at the club.

When Cox climbed up into the DJ booth around 11:45 p.m., the crowd showed its appreciation with wild cheers before he had even played a record. Fans crowded around the booth, trying to shake his hand while club security tried to clear people out.

Cox didn’t seem bothered, though, as he smiled and laughed and accommodated his fans.

At last, he pulled out his own records and mixed seamlessly into Little Mike’s mix. He didn’t stop the record in order to highlight his own mix’s beginning, he just continued with the party atmosphere and took it farther, sparing the audience any superstar ego.
