Three street parking areas on Asbury Avenue and part of the temporary parking lot adjacent to Driscoll Lawn will be closed this coming week, as bulldozers will drill a tunnel underneath Asbury.
The tunnel will be to install steam and chilled water pipes for Schwayder Art Building. The construction should take two weeks.
Other changes include new parking structures that university adminstrators said will relieve parking woes.
A large parking structure south of the new Robert and Judi Newman Center for the Performing Arts building will be finished by next August.
Underground parking accessible from High Street will be available when the five-story Nelson Hall dormitory opens for students in fall 2002.
Construction for the new dorm continues to be on schedule to open for the fall date.
Updates on the Newman Center construction consist of Trevorrow Hall, the classroom portion to the north, finished last November, and the fly tower, the highest part of the building topped out in December.
Cranes currently used for contrusction on campus for the Performing Arts Center and Nelson Hall will be removed during the spring quarter when structure outlines are finished.
Planning for DU’s Graduate School of International Studies and Graduate School of Social Work are currently being developed. DU’s building spree has already added four new building. Still under construction is the new School of Law between Asbury Avenue and Old Fraternity Row on Evans Avenue.
