Road closures

From now until fall of 2005, there will be a series of road changes on University and Buchtel boulevards. Road and water main repairs and a road-widening project are the reasons for the closures.

Only one lane will remain open in both directions on University until the project is completed in the fall.

Denver Water will begin repairs to a water line on the west side of University Boulevard near Jewell Avenue.

The work will proceed north to Buchtel Boulevard, requiring University Boulevard to be restricted to one lane in each direction.

During the week of Feb. 21, the repairs will move to Buchtel Boulevard, restricting traffic to one lane in each direction. All Buchtel lanes will be closed on either side of University on Friday evening, Feb. 25, so water main repair can be completed.

Additionally, T-REX crews will install a storm sewer across Buchtel on the east side of University Boulevard. During that weekend, University Boulevard will be restricted to one lane in either direction.

University Boulevard will be closed in both directions under I-25 during two consecutive weekends in late March or early April for drainage work.

University Boulevard will be widened by 10 feet from Asbury Avenue to I-25 to accomodate a continuous center turn lane. Hardier, disease-resistant trees will be replace street-side trees between Asbury and Buchtel.

Street widening will begin in early April.
