Faculty-graduate seminar

The Josef Korbel School of International Studies presents the first talk of a faculty-graduate student research seminar series today at 12 p.m. Lecturer Sasha Breger will address the future of coffee markets in Mexico, Brazil and Uganda.

Lecture by Korbel dean

Tom Farer, dean of the Korbel School of International Studies, will give a talk on global terrorism and American Neo-Conservatism. During the lecture, which will take place tomorrow at 5 p.m. in Ben Cherrington Hall, the Dean will address the ideas and subjects central to the controversy surrounding the War on Terror.

security fair

The International Studies department of Career and Professional Development will host a Global Security Fair on Thursday. Fifteen employers, including the FBI, will have representatives on campus all day to meet with students of all academic majors about their career options. Students interested in attending need to RSVP at www.korbelcareers.com.

Social work film series

The Graduate School of Social Work and the Denver Branch of NASW-CO (National Association of Social Work, Colorado Chapter) will screen a social work stories film series.

The first screening will be Thursday at 4 p.m. in Craig Hall, room 448. The film “Juno” will be shown , and the topic of discussion will be teen pregnancy. Admission to the screenings is $5 per film. For more information, contact Lorie Klumb at lklumb@du.edu.

Slanguage

performance

The Newman Center will present Slanguage, a performance synthesizing traditional theater with various other performing arts on Thursday, at 7:30 p.m. The performance may include sensitive material and some R-rated references and language.

Financial

crisis discussion

An informal discussion on the current financial economic crisis with Professor Ilene Grabel, director of the Global Finance, Trade and Economic Integration degree program, will be held on Friday, at 11 a.m. in the Josef Korbel School of International Studies’ Cyber Café.

Grabel will address the causes and effects of the crisis, potential solutions and answer students questions.

The Newman Center for the Performing Arts will present Decision 2008/Ballot Issues 101 – a look at the important issues for Colorado on Monday, from 1-4 p.m. 9 News Political reporter Adam Schrager will moderate.

Unity retreat

All students are invited to attend this weekend’s Diversity and Unity retreat, hosted by the Center for Multicultural Excellence. The retreat will begin Friday at the Snow Mountain Ranch in Winter Park and is free for students.

Environment web

competition

A web competition offering a $10,000 prize for the best video or graphic explaining how capping greenhouse gas emissions will break America’s dependence on foreign oil was launched last week by the Environmental Defense Action fund.

Submissions are due by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21.
