The Daniels College of Business (DCB) hosted its second annual “Welcome Back Barbecue” for business school students and faculty last Thursday, where students and professors talked about their expectations for this year.
The barbecue was intended for undergraduate students and faculty to get acquainted with each other and reconnect from past classes.
Two freshmen said they were looking forward to this year as they work towards their business major.
Freshman Christina Zizzo, said she is looking forward to fulfilling her internship requirements.
“I want that work experience, especially since I’ve never worked before,” Zizzo said.
HRTM majors must complete 500 internship hours and 500 work hours to meet their major requirements.
Freshman Sam Fenwick said she is looking forward to getting familiar with the basics of business this year. So far, she said she’s enjoying business 1040, Strategic Advances in Technology, with Professor Daniel Connolly.
“The discussions are really interesting, and [Connolly] really makes you think like a business person,” Fenwick said.
Sandra Young, a marketing professor also had a positive outlook for the school year.
“We’re going to have fun and learn a lot,” Young said.
However, some students had suggestions for the school year.
“I would like them to expand the teaching staff so they can have smaller class sizes,” senior Mike Muscatello said.
He said his biggest class is Accounting 2800, which has about 40 students.
Although the barbecue was intended for undergraduates, several graduate students also attended.
Drew Thompson, a graduate student, said he has noticed his classes are “more intellectually stimulating than undergrad.”
“There has definitely been a transition in academic vigor. The professors are challenging you to think more practically, and there is a lot more participating in critical thinking discussions,” Thompson said.
