Drink coffee, discuss fair trade
Fair Trade Awareness Week events will be celebrated until tomorrow. There will be Kaladi Brothers Coffee on the Driscoll Bridge everyday, as well as available information regarding Fair Trade, including economic, environmental, and human rights concerns.
Students may stop by, sign a petition and talk to students who traveled to Nicaragua and saw Fair Trade in action. The following films will be shown and discussed tonight in room 281 of Sturm Hall from 5-6 p.m.: “Santiago’s Story,” educational film about coffee farming in Nicaragua, “Visionaries: Coffee Kids” and a PBS documentary on the Fair Trade advocate organization based out of Denver.
From 12-1 p.m. tomorrow, there will be a community forum at Kaladi Brothers, located at 1730 E. Evans, and a question and answer session with CCB)sar ZeledCB3n. He will give a lecture entitled, “Fair Trade Through the Eyes of a Coffee Farmer” from 7-8:30 p.m. in Lindsay Auditorium.
ZeledCB3n is a member of the Board of Directors of the Organization of Northern Coffee Cooperatives and has been integral in fighting for Nicaraguan coffee farmer’s rights since the Sandinista Revolution of 1979.

Be romanced by France Thursday
The department of Residence Life will be hosting the last Romance language dinner series: France on Thursday from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
The DU Francoscope officers will offer a brief presentation on France, followed by a dinner of French cuisine from the Le Central restaurant. The event will be held in the Nelson Hall Private Dining Hall.

DU liberal arts essay contest
Students interested in winning a Tattered Cover gift certificate can participate in an essay contest. Essays of significant quality will be published and distributed within the university and to incoming students
Essays should answer the question: What is the meaning of a liberal arts education? Essays should be no more than 2,500 words; other creative works are also welcome.
Submissions will be judged by the Honors Program Faculty Committee. Undergraduate students (both Honors and non-Honors students) from all departments are encouraged to submit their work to the Honors Program Office, Mary Reed Building 17 (south basement) by May 3.

Underground Railroad stories
The University of Denver “Bridges to The Future” Series and The Spirituals Project will be hosting “Voices of Alienation and Hope: Stories and Songs of the Underground Railroad from our African American Ancestors Admission” on April 13 at 7 p.m in Sturm Hall Auditorium.
The event is described as a celebration of survival and triumph presented as a discussion and concert. This event explores how Africans who were captured and brought to the U.S. and enslaved used song, story and craft to survive and escape through the Underground Railroad.

Get free alcohol screening test
DU Students can learn important information on how alcohol can affect their lives this Thursday, National Alcohol Screening Day.
Because alcohol is a significant problem on college campuses, students can complete a brief, written screening test, receive educational information and talk one-on-one with a health professional for free. The DU Health and Counseling Center will be hosting the screening day from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. in Driscoll North, Suite 1880.
