Black History Month
In honor of Black history month, the Black Student Alliance is hosting a variety of events throughout campus.
There will be an opening ceremony tonight titled, “The Story of the Black Movement: Education, Activism, Economics and Law.” The opening ceremony will be held in the first floor commons area of the Driscoll Center from 3-4 p.m.
Guest speaker Rick Jones will be presenting a speech titled “The Law and Underrepresented Populations” in the Sturm College of Law forum at 6 p.m.
Next Wednesday, there will be an “Open-Mic/Spoken Word” session at the Driscoll Center Sidelines Pub from 7 – 10 p.m.
On Tuesday, Feb. 22, there will be a “Soul Food Fundraiser Event” located in the Sturm Law School Forum from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. That same day there will be a Hillel and BSA Student Organization round table at the Hillel house from 1-2 p.m.
A closing ceremony will be hosted in the first-floor Village Commons of the Driscoll Center from 3-4 p.m. on Feb. 28. Contact Nami Ghebreab at nrussom2@du.edu for more information.
Book sale
DU’s Amnesty International chapter is hosting an annual book sale. The book sale will be located in the Law School forum. Students and faculty will be able to learn about conflict diamonds.
All proceeds will go to DU’s Amnesty International chapter. The event will be held all week from 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Contact Bryony Heise at bheise@du.edu for more information.
On-campus lectures
Various lectures will be held on campus in the upcoming weeks. The lecture “Child Abuse Investigation and the Ethics of Removing Children from their Homes” will be held Wednesday from 5:30-7 p.m. This lecture will be led by Jennifer Reich, a faculty member from the sociology department.
The lecture, “Stem Cell Research,” will be held Monday, Feb. 12, from 5:30-7 p.m. This lecture will be led by Anna Sher and Christina Coughlin, two members from the Biology Department faculty.
These presentations are an opportunity to explore different major fields and ask questions. All the lectures will be held in the Nelson Hall first-floor conference room.
Dorm room do-over
On and off campus students have the opportunity to win a dorm room makeover valued at over $1,000. This includes electronics, organizational tips, room dCB)cor and more.
A guest speaker will be present as well. The event will be held in the Lindsay Auditorium in Sturm Hall on Thursday from 7-8 p.m. Contact Brittany Wiser at bwiser@du.edu for more information.
Graduate reception
The Office of Alumni Relations, Campus Life and the Career Center are presenting the Recent Graduate/Senior Reception. This event is scheduled for Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. in the Craig Hall Community Room. Appetizers, drinks and desserts will be served.
The purpose of the reception is to ease anxiety that seniors may have as they approach graduation.
DU alumni will offer help and answers to questions you may have concerning life after college.

Public good conference
The Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning is presenting a conference titled, “The Theory and Practice of Public Good Work.”
The conference includes lunch and workshop sessions for students, faculty and staff.
The conference will also include keynote speaker Jeremy Cohen from Pennsylvania State University.
This event is free and open to the public. RSVP is required and is encouraged as soon as possible.

Shabbat 200
Shabbat 200 will be sponsored by Chabad on Feb. 16 in Craig Hall at 5:30 p.m. The event is free and open to all students.

Writing samples
A writing samples workshop will be held at the Sturm College of Law tonight in room 190 from 12-1 p.m. Professor DuVivier will discuss the purpose of the writing sample from an employer’s perspective as well as the mechanics of drafting a document. Tibetan culture
The Arts and Sciences Passport, Second Year Experience, Study Abroad and Partners in Learning are sponsoring the “Tastes and Sights – An Evening with Bhutan and Tibet” program for second year students.
The program will be held from 4-7 p.m. tonight. There will be a meditation practice from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Driscoll Gallery and a free Tibetan dinner from 5:30-7 p.m. at the International House. A documentary will also be shown. The documentary was filmed by a DU alumni who participated in Project Dharmsala and traveled to Tibet. The Institute for the Study of Israel and the Middle East invites all students to attend a lunch lecture on Thursday, Feb. 15 from 12-2 p.m. Dr. Ziad Asali, president and founder of the American Task Force on Palestine, will be the guest speaker.
