Men’s soccer won their first-ever Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship and advanced to the First Round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1970.

The Pioneers ended their season with a 4-0 loss to the UC Davis Aggies in the first round of the tournament.

The men ended their season 10-7-2 and 8-1-1 in MPSF play.

Senior forward Kyle Christensen was named the 2008 MPSF Player of the years well as All-MPSF first team honors.

The No. 29-ranked women’s soccer advanced to the NCAA tournament after winning the Sun Belt Tournament for the third consecutive season, defeating Western Kentucky 2-0.

The team ended their season with a 2-1 loss to Kansas in the First Round of the NCAA National Tournament.

The Pioneers finished their season 19-3-2, one of the best in program history. This was Denver’s sixth overall Sun Belt Tournament crown and sixth NCAA Tournament appearance.

The women’s volleyball team won their second consecutive Sun Belt Conference West Division crown with a 3-0 win over Arkansas State. DU advanced to the first round of the SBC championships but fell 0-3 to Western Kentucky.

The Pioneers finished their season 25-7 overall, 14-4 SBC, which marks the best record in program history through 32 matches.

Junior Stephanie Sherlock from the Pioneers’ women’s golf team was named Royal Canadian Gold Association’s (RCGA) top female amateur golfer, and won the CN Canadian women’s tour event in Winnipeg and the SBC Championship.

Sherlock was also named to team Canada for third successive year, after finishing tied for No. 5 at the NCAA Division I finals.

The men’s swimming and diving team defeated Florida Atlantic 176-122, however ther women lost 153-141 at the meet on Dec. 20.

They will compete against in-state rival, Air Force at the United States Air Force Academy on Saturday.

The city of Denver was also awarded the NCAA Women’s Final Four to be held April 3-10, 2012 at the Pepsi Center.
