Chances are, if you’re a college student, you’re staying on campus this October to celebrate Halloween. But if you’re worried that there aren’t any places to have fun right here in Denver, the list below is about to prove you wrong.
If your autumn plans fall (pun intended) under the on-campus category, there are still plenty of options. One upcoming event on DU grounds is the Hunter’s Moon Festival, which is free for all DU students and has food trucks, pumpkin and sugar skull painting and baby goats.
If you’re looking for a fall treat, Ben and Jerry’s (which is a five-minute walk from campus) now officially has fall-themed shakes that can satisfy your sweet tooth. These include flavors like Caramel Apple Cider and Maple.
The college music scene will be lively this month, too, with a house show on Oct. 24 featuring bands made up of DU students. KXDU, DU’s student-run radio station, will provide updates on the location for students to support the local music scene.
For all the shop-aholics, consider thrifting this quarter as a budget-friendly option at the lively second-hand shop scene around campus. Popular picks like Arc Thrift Stores and ShowPony Vintage will get your winter closet in order this October.
If you’re a country music lover or just looking for a fun night out, the Grizzly Rose bar does line dancing nights, with other activities including a mechanical bull so you can have your very own rodeo.
And if you are looking to get to concerts on a budget, the light rail is perfect for taking you to all the music hotspots like Ball Arena, Fillmore Auditorium and Mission Ballroom, with upcoming concerts featuring artists like Phoebe Bridgers (Oct. 19) and Julia Wolf (Oct. 16). Various apps like Bandsintown can even help you find venues close to you if you don’t know where to start.
For a more educational option, the Denver Science Museum is a great place to start: with both permanent and interactive exhibits. No matter your vibe, you can find something to pique your interest. Denver Art Museum also has both interactive and traditional exhibits and their upcoming SCFD Free Day on Oct. 13 means you can enjoy a day there for free.
Both of these opportunities offer student discounts. Just come ready with your student ID.
That being said, if you’re willing to venture on the pricier side, check out the various escape rooms around Denver such as EscapeWorks and Mystic Escape Room.
Not a fan of the city? There are plenty of beautiful hikes right at your fingertips, especially in Boulder where you can visit sights like Chautauqua Park and the Boulder Canyon Trail. The trails have clear directions and views of both the Rocky Mountains and the city. These offer a great chance to take a breath of fresh air and see the natural beauty of Colorado.
Finally, if you’re not the going-out type and want to curl up with a book this season, check out ULA Book Stacks on campus in the Mary Reed Building, which is selling “new, used and rare” books, according to their website.
Whether you’re ready to go out with friends, or take a step back and relax as we near the end of the first quarter, there’s something for everyone to enjoy this fall season.
