In a shock drop that had sneaker enthusiasts running to their local boutiques and computers, one of the most highly anticipated sneakers of the year came out this last Friday, Oct. 11 – the Travis Scott x Air Jordan 6 in the Medium Olive colourway. If you are unfamiliar with how difficult it is to get a hold of a shoe of this caliber, check resale site Stockx and you will find this sneaker in a size 9 for an average of $1,285. Crazy right? This shoe has been anticipated ever since it was seen on the feet of hip hop artist Travis Scott on Instagram. Now that it is here, I wanted to talk about what have been some of the best sneaker releases of 2019 and highlight some anticipated sneaker releases for the rest of the year.
Over the course of 2019, I think there have been a lot of very cool and interesting silhouettes that have been released. It has been a fun year for sneakers and it is cool to see some of the sneakers I am going to mention walking around DU’s campus right now.
A brand new silhouette introduced this year were the Sacai x Nike collaboration. The collaboration includes two revamped shoes – the Nike LD Waffle Sacai and the Nike Blazer Mid Sacai. Both of these shoes are in consideration for the sneaker of the year for their uniqueness, quality and hype.
The next notable shoe that dropped in 2019 was the Fear of God (FOG) x Nike collaboration, which produced the Air Fear of God 1’s. The Air Fear of God 1’s are a one of a kind high-top basketball/street sneaker that turns heads wherever the shoe is featured. Another shoe that garnered lots of attention for the technology it brought to sneakers were the one-of-a-kind Nike Adapt BB. – As a self- lacing shoe made for performance basketball, the shoe comes in various colors and has adjustable settings to adapt to the user’s foot style.
2019 has had a lot of great Nike sneakers, but Kanye West and the Yeezy line have put out 10 plus shoes within the year. One of the most anticipated releases was the Yeezy 350 v2 ‘Black.’ When this shoe released mid-2019, it sold like hot cakes and currently has one of the highest resale values of Yeezy’s in 2019.
Still, the most anticipated sneaker of 2019 was the Air Jordan Travis Scott 1’s. These shoes had extreme hype due to their predicted limited quantity, design and the fact that they were in connection with arguably the hottest hip-hop artist in the world Travis Scott.
Two anticipated sneakers expected to release in 2019 are the first ever Yeezy Basketball Shoe which has had rumored picture replicas. The other shoe, the Yeezy 350 v3,has also been leaked and is anticipated by the community. Keep an eye out for these shoes towards the end of the year.
