On May 20, the Native Student Alliance (NSA) hosted DU’s 9th annual “New Beginnings” pow wow in the Hamilton Gymnasium. NSA hosts this pow wow annually to honor the graduating Native students from DU. This year, seven Native students graduated with a B.A., and one Native student graduated with a J.D. from DU’s Sturm College of Law.

This year, the pow wow also honored Viki Eagle, DU’s Director of Native American Community Relations & Programs, for her work during her three years at the university. Eagle will be leaving DU this fall to pursue her Ph.D. at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

The pow wow included dancing competitions for juniors, teens, adults and golden age (55 and up). It also included a market place to buy items such as jewelry, clothing and more.
