To our fellow Denver community,
Our campaign is founded upon the fact that our student body, as a vibrant and passionate collection of individuals, functions as DU’s greatest asset. We believe that DU’s Undergraduate Student Government must serve as a catalyst that engages every part of our institution in forging towards common goals and a united sense of belonging among all students.
Over the past few months, we have met with a wide variety of student groups and leaders here on campus, be it from student athletes to affinity groups. We listened to their perspectives and learned about the ways our university could facilitate their student experience. In our proposed platform, we have attempted to harness the best student ideas we have heard and have them serve as an effective first-step to accomplish our broader goals and challenge the status quo.
There are four main aspects of our platform: increasing transparency and engagement, placing a greater emphasis on community, implementing necessary campus reforms and having an eye towards a long-term vision. In this letter, we would like to focus on a few specific ideas in our platform. To foster open dialogue with the DU administration, we will reintroduce and build upon the “Leaders Assembly” initiative that was created to bring together student leaders through open conversations regarding campus concerns. In addition, we seek to develop improved clarity and consistency in the funding application process for student organizations by providing groups with an easily discernible outline of funding allocation criteria.
Secondly, we want to increase students’ engagement with their campus by partnering with DUPB to create a new “Spring Cleaning” DU yard-sale event during May Days. This would serve as an event to encourage students to bring old books, clothing items or pieces of furniture to trade, barter or sell.
Moreover, we also aspire to institute necessary campus reforms in the realm of sustainability, mental health, fraternity and sorority life and sexual assault. Specifically, we hope to support partnerships between the “Green Greeks” initiative and Fraternity and Sorority Life to champion sustainability among chapters, as well as work alongside the Mental Health Task Force to create a specified committee for FSL to promote the awareness of a healthy mind.
Lastly, DU must pursue policies with an eye towards the future growth of our institution. We want to help promote the adoption of more hybrid classes on our campus and ensure that the DU administration provides its best efforts towards DU IMPACT 2025.
These ideas provide a snapshot of the action we would like to implement here at DU. We strive to Amplify Your Voice and invite you to learn more by visiting http://www.rengasterling.com/.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Suraj Renganathan and Sophia Sterling
