To our friends and peers at DU:

We are both incredibly excited and humbled to have the opportunity to run for president and vice president of the Undergraduate Student Government. As students at DU, we have had the immense privilege of belonging to many different communities throughout our time here. That is what leads us to truly believe that our DU community is at its best when we all come together.

DU has something special. Our communities and our people are incredible. Whether it be our friends taking part in a Dungeons and Dragons campaign, fraternity and sorority members putting on philanthropic events such as Delta Zeta’s “Big Man on Campus” and Beta Theta Pi’s “Date-a-Beta,” our student and club athletes or our friends involved in various student alliances, at our best we’re doing great work, making new discoveries about ourselves and the world and supporting one another as we move forward. However, we also have moments where that community is lacking. We believe that we are best as a school, as a campus, as a community when we are diverse, open and respectful.

We believe there is absolutely no reason that DU should not be a cultural and political powerhouse within the city of Denver and state of Colorado. We believe our culture, which is still being shaped, can truly make us one of the premier institutions in the West and the country.

All of this is to say, we believe that the key to our success as a student body is the relationships we nurture. The relationships that we see as the basis of our campus are: student to student, students to administration, students to alumni and students to Denver. We’re running for president and vice president because we not only value these relationships immensely but believe we can strengthen them.

That is why our policy works to promote the building of relationships between the various groups of our campus. Facilitates diverse and open dialogue. Promotes healthy relationships with administration while continuing to fight for transparency. Ensures any student on our campus that would like an alumni mentor in their field may have one. Holds landlords and administration accountable to the needs of off-campus students. Develops a student lobbyist position to push for our interests in both governments and businesses. Starts the process of discussing what it means to be a student at DU and how we should move forward on creating a new mascot for our campus. Ultimately, we are seeking to create community and culture upon our campus.

We wish to continue the support of all the organizations on our campus that work for survivors of sexual assault, students suffering from mental illness, first generation students on our campus and more.

We hope that we may accomplish this and more should we be elected as your USG president and vice president. Please join us in bringing communities together! For more information, find our website here: https://sites.google.com/view/armijofitzgerald2018/home?authuser=0.
