In this coming week, it’s going to be Valentine’s Day, which is one of my least favorite holidays. This is not because I’m single and bitter, but because it is over-commercialized and hetero-normative…but that’s a story for another time. I like to think of Valentine’s Day as a day not only for love from a possible significant other, but for some much needed self-love—Treat Yo’ Self, if you will. It’s also a day to feel sexy, and, no, you don’t need anyone to tell you you’re sexy to feel that way. Sometimes, in fact, all it takes is a song. So here is a list of five sensual songs that will keep you feeling sexy and confident on Valentine’s Day.

“Crazy In Love” by Beyoncé (Fifty Shades of Grey Remix)
Beyoncé brings sexiness and confidence in almost everything she does. She recently partnered up with the Fifty Shades of Grey movie to do an updated, even sexier version of her hit “Crazy In Love.” This dark, orchestral remix brings breathy, moaning vocals from the Queen B, as well as a haunting piano and dramatic swells. There may be a lot of problems with the movie, but the soundtrack, and this song in particular, are the real MVP’s of this franchise (and the only good thing to come out of Fifty Shades of Grey). Unfortunately, the song isn’t sharable at this moment, but there is a cover by Sofia Karlberg, a YouTube singer. It’s not Beyoncé, but it works.

“Childs Play” by SZA ft. Chance the Rapper
This song is a little less literal when it comes to sexiness. The lyrics aren’t what make this

song—it’s the music. The held synth chords throughout make this song feel sensual. I honestly don’t know why, but that noise and the easy flow between the chords, coupled with SZA’s soft lyrical voice, make that sexy atmosphere. This was my first impression of SZA, and I had high hopes; her unique sound and fresh, creative technique really intrigued me. Luckily, I wasn’t let down.

“Thinkin’ Bout You” by Frank Ocean
For a more lyric-based sexiness, “Thinkin’ Bout You” is sure to make you melt. When Frank Ocean reaches the chorus, traveling up to his highest vocal range, you can’t help but think he’s singing about you. The simplistic beat and swelling synths help backup his soulful voice. It’s one of Ocean’s best, and it will have you feeling sexy all day long.

“Blue” by Willow Beats
This song starts with a mellow loop of a guitar, and then leads to, yet again, growing synths, which now, come to think of it, may be the key to a sexy song. Willow Beats works mainly with eccentric beats and heavy musical experimentation, and this song doesn’t lack any of that. It actually feels muted for them, but this dulled style leads to an unconventionally sexy hit. The distorted lyrics jump between different parts of the song, feeling broken, but they flow together, creating a unique sensual feeling.

“Partition” by Beyoncé
Don’t act surprised that I added another Beyoncé song. I mean, come on. It’s Beyoncé. She bleeds sexy. And “Partition” was her most sensual song to date, if you ask me. Bouncy beats and strong finger-snapping give an air of sexy confidence. Most of the lyrics are a little too scandalous to put on the blog, but don’t just think this song is being explicit to be explicit. As she says in her song “Grown Woman,” “I’m a grown woman/I’m gonna do whatever I want,” and she will. The music video, filmed in an extravagant palace showing Beyoncé wearing even more extravagant clothes, is full of confidence and power of one’s sexuality.

There’s no guarantee that these songs will make you feel sexy, but all these songs are well produced and thought-out, and, no matter what you feel, they are wonderful songs. Just remember, it doesn’t have to be Valentine’s Day for you to give yourself some self-love, and you don’t need anyone else to make you feel sexy.
