The Women’s soccer team is out of the NCAA Tournament after falling to the CU Buffs 1-0 on Friday night.

The Buffs scored their lone goal when Buffs player Anne Stuller scored on a free kick in the 84th minute.

The Pioneers finished their 2013 season with a record of 18-2-1 and a title of Summit League regular season champions.

“In the end I think that’s why they say soccer is such a cruel game,” said head coach Jeff Hooker. “I think we were very good with our ball movement and possession in the second half. We fouled them and they made us pay.”

This marked the eighth appearance by Denver in an NCAA tournament, hosting an overall record of 2-9.

“This season has been great. I couldn’t have asked for a better season,” said midfielder Nicholette DiGiacomo. “This game was a big loss to us. We wish it would have gone differently, but the season as a whole we’re really happy with and I’m glad to have shared it with these girls and parents and the whole family we’ve created.”

DiGiacomo is among the eight senior players who will graduate this year.
