To help with recovery from the floods that rocked Colorado two weeks ago, DU athletics and the men’s soccer team donated the funds from two weekend soccer games to the Red Cross in support of those affected by the floods.

“We wanted to find an easy way for our campus community to get involved in supporting the floods,” said senior associate athletic director Jeff Howard. “We were looking for a way for our student athletes as well as campus community to support relief effort.”

The amount of money collected from the games has yet to be counted. However, Howard said the response from students and fans was very positive.

In addition to the sales from the games, collections were gathered at the game and donated to the Red Cross.
Howard said the event’s success was a testament to the relationship between DU Athletics and partner CBS4, which promoted the games and the opportunity for fans to donate to flood relief efforts.

“It was a great opportunity to come and be part of supporting the men’s soccer team,” he said. “We know especially in a campus community folks may not have transport or are looking for a way to try and do something.”

Anyone who wants to make a contribution to relief efforts can find a CBS4 list of charities focused on flood assistance listed online at duathletics.com.
