what went right
After a tough start to the season for DU Volleyball, the Pioneers were able to upset in-state rival No. 19 Colorado State, snapping an eight-game losing streak last Friday. The win marks the first time DU Volleyball has defeated a ranked opponent since entering the Division I ranks as a program in 1999. DU won the first set 27-25 and went on to win sets three and four 25-18 and 25-22, respectively, taking a 3-1 victory. Junior Faimie Kingley was able to step up for the team, leading the way with 15 kills, seven blocks and four digs.
what went wrong
On Tuesday, the Pioneers lost their seventh consecutive match to in-state foe Northern Colorado (18-25, 20-25, 22-25). The loss is only the second time the Pioneers have lost to the Golden Bears in the past five seasons.

DU will begin the Sun Belt Conference portion of their schedule as they face Florida Atlantic on Friday at 7 p.m. in Hamilton Gymnasium. Last season, FAU defeated the Pioneers 3-1 in Boca Raton, Fla.

what went right
After starting out the season at 0-2-4, the Pioneers earned their first victory of the season last Friday with a 3-0 victory over Buffalo. Senior forward Kellan Christensen led DU with a goal and assist. Other Pioneers that found the net were freshman Christian Volesky and junior forward Joe Eubanks.
what went wrong
After winning their first game on Friday, the Pioneers lost to the College of Charleston by a score of 3-2 on Sunday. Freshman midfielder Brian Hoyt scored both goals for Denver.
up next
The Pioneers are headed to California this weekend to take on Cal State Fullerton and Cal Poly on Friday and Sunday before beginning conference play on Oct. 1 against Air Force on Ciber Field.
women’ soccer (7-2, 0-0 SBC)

what went right
DU women’s soccer opened the Denver Invitational with a 1-0 victory over CSU Bakersfield Friday. Junior forward Katy Van Lieshout tallied the lone goal in the match.
what went wrong
After winning their first game of the invitational, the Pioneers lost to No. 22 Auburn by a score of 2-1 on Sunday. This was the Pioneer’s second loss of the season, after falling to California on Sept. 4.

The Pioneers open up SBC play later this week when they host Middle Tennessee Friday at 7 p.m. on Ciber Field. DU closes out the weekend playing Western Kentucky at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
