Men’s Soccer

DU 2, UNLV 2  (2OT)

DU 1, NEW MEXICO 2

The Pioneers dropped a pair of home games last weekend.

On Friday night, sophomore midfielder Jarod Stigall scored twice in the final 15 minutes to bring DU into overtime.

After being down the entire first half, the Pioneers rallied when senior Collin Audley dished the ball to Stigall who blasted a shot into the corner of the net. With less than six minutes left in the game, Stigall scored again off a rebounded shot.

On Sunday afternoon, the Pioneers fell behind again in the first half when the Lobos’ Michael Reed shot the ball past DU’s goalie Joe Willis.

Stigall scored the only Pioneers goal when he nailed a free kick from 38 yards out into the top left corner.

The Lobos won the contest when P.J Wilson zipped the ball past Willis.

 

Women’s Soccer

DU 2, WESTERN

KENTUCKY 0

DU 2, MIDDLE

TENNESSEE 1

The women’s soccer team won two road games over the weekend.

On Friday night, against Western Kentucky, freshman forward Kaitlin Best dished the ball to senior midfielder Mariah Johnston who scored in the 25th minute to put the Pioneers up 1-0. Johnston assisted junior mifielder Kelsey Quinn later in the game to give DU the 2-0 win.

The win helped the Pioneers tie the Hilltoppers for second place in the Sun Belt Conference.

On Sunday afternoon, the Pioneers improved to 13-5-1 on the season and 8-2 in their conference with a road win over Middle Tennessee.

Senior midfielder Kelli Breidenbach scored on a header in the 16th minute of the game off of an assist from Johnston. Johnston tacked on the game winning goal, her second goal of the weekend, in the 80th minute.

 

Volleyball

DU 3, TROY 1

DU 3, SOUTH ALABAMA 2

The Pioneer volleyball team swept a pair of road games over the weekend.

On Friday, the Pioneers defeated Troy 3-1 led by dominating performances from seniors Emmy Davidsmeyer and Alexis Ninos.

The duo finished with 17 and 15 kills, respectively.

On Sunday, Davidsmeyer and Ninos led the Pioneers again with 16 and 10 kills, respectively, in a win over South Alabama.DU survived a Jaguar comeback attempt by winning the fifth set 16-14.

Senior Clare Maxwell finished with 37 assists. She is currently 22 assists away from becoming the all-time assists leader in DU volleyball history.
