The No. 21 Pioneer gymnasts fell to No. 11 Oklahoma 196.025-194.825 in Hamilton Gymnasium on Saturday.

It was a difficult week for the Pioneers as nearly half of the team was sick with the flu and was unable to practice for most of the week.

“For the first time in my career, we actually considered canceling the meet,” head coach Melissa Kutcher-Rinehart said. “I went to the administration and said, ‘I don’t know that we can field the lineup.'”

Senior All-American Jessica López won her third consecutive all-around title, with a score of 39.250. López also tied for second on beam with a 9.825, tied for fourth on the vault with a 9.800, took fourth on the uneven bars with a 9.825 and took fifth on the floor exercise with a 9.800.

Sophomore Amanda Johanson recorded a first place tie with Oklahoma on the floor with a 9.850.

“As a whole, we’re getting a lot better. We’re climbing the ladder,” Johanson said. “We’ve had to struggle a little bit, but we’re getting better, we’re dropping lower scores.”

Junior Kelley Hennigan posted a 9.825 on the vault, capturing the third place title.

The Pioneers will host Texas Women’s College on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Hamilton Gymnasium without performances by López as she will be competing in the 2009 Tyson All-American Cup in Chicago.
