This Sunday DU club cycling will host its first ever cycling criterium starting at 8 a.m. and going until 4 p.m. The event will take place in the parking lot of Invesco Field at Mile High.

Collegiate category races will take place in the morning, and USCF races for the community will be held in the afternoon. All 12 teams from the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Cycling Conference will be competing, including Wyoming, Air Force, New Mexico and Northern Arizona among others.

The criterium event is a one-mile loop course around the stadium and includes lots of curves and an exciting uphill finish.

The women’s A race begins at 10:15 a.m. with the headlining event of the men’s A race beginning at 11:15 a.m. Both will last 60 minutes.

If you would like to join the competition, all you need is a bike and a one-day license that you can purchase at the race.

This is the second year that DU has had a club cycling team and this will be its second race of the season.

The first race they participated in was held last weekend in Albuquerque, N. M.

The men’s A team trial got fifth place overall, and the women took second place.

Seniors Joe Lewis and Steve Forbes placed sixth and eighth, respectively in the men’s criterium event, while junior Grant Goerzen took 11th in the men’s A time trial.

The DU cycling team has 36 members but not all participate in the races.

The team will also be collecting cycling gear for a local nonprofit organization, Trips for Kids of Denver. The organization provides mountain bikes for children who do not have bikes.

Support your DU cyclists, and go watch them compete in their first ever home meet.
