The regular season came to an end for both the DU men’s and women’s lacrosse teams this past weekend, with the men defeating Air Force and the women falling on the road to top-ranked Northwestern.

With the win on the weekend the men joined the women in setting records, as it was their 12th of the season, which is a Denver record for most wins in a season.

The now no. 14 Pioneers defeated the Falcons of Air Force 7-3 on Saturday in Colorado Springs for their first-ever undefeated league schedule. DU is now 12-4 overall and 5-0 in league for the season and has qualified for another first, the school’s first NCAA tournament bid. Denver will now await the NCAA selection show to see who they will play, which will take play this Sunday at 8 p.m. (MT) on ESPNews.

DU got off to a quick start and never looked back Saturday against the Falcons. Senior Geoff Snider, freshman Eric Covey and junior Brandon Barcus each scored a goal in the first seven minutes of the game to give Denver the early 3-0 lead. Freshman Joe Murray netted two goals in the second quarter to help give the Pioneers a 5-1 halftime lead.

The second half was more of the same as sophomore Jon Paulson and senior Adam Goodwin each scored to give DU a 7-1 advantage on there way towards eventual victory.

Denver out shot Air Force for the game, 27-18 and Snider was 9 of 14 from the face off circle.

Women’s Lacrosse:

The lady Pioneers got their week off to a rolling start with a 27-7 victory over inter-state rival Colorado College on Wednesday before falling to No. 2 ranked Northwestern 19-10 on Sunday.

On Wednesday seven different women scored, including junior Kristie Leggio, who put in seven; senior Tanya Fuchs, who added five, senior Steph Greenlees who netted five as well; sophomore Victoria Baines, who found the net three times, and sophomore Caroline Muldoon, who added two. The 27 goals and 38 points in the game both set school records.

Denver’s success did not carry on to Sunday when DU traveled to Evanston, Ill., to battle second ranked Northwestern, DU fell 19-10. The Wildcats took an early 3-0 lead and a 9-4 halftime lead on their way to there 15th win of the season. Fuchs led DU with six goals, followed by freshman Karen Morton who added two along with one apiece from Greenlees and freshman Steph Coyne.

The Pioneers will next play in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation conference tournament this weekend at Eugene, Ore., where they are the No. one seed and will face either Oregon or Saint Mary’s.
