The men’s hockey team split a weekend series up at North Dakota this past weekend, losing Friday 3-1 and winning Saturday 7-2. The men are now 3-3 overall and 1-1 in conference on the season. In the defeat, the Pioneers received the lone goal from freshman Chris Butler, his second of the year. Saturday night’s thrashing was courtesy of goals by Gabe Gauthier (2), Ryan Helgason (2), Paul Stastny (2), Tom May (1), Ryan Dingle (4) and two from junior captain Matt Carle. The blowout did not come without some bad news. DU learned that they have lost freshman Brock Trotter for the season with a severed right achilles tendon. Denver will host Michigan Tech this weekend on Friday and Saturday evening. As part of the homecoming festivities, the Pioneers will raise the 2005 Championship banner before Saturday’s game. This weekend will be a great opportunity for DU to get a sweep and start a winning streak against a team like Michigan Tech.
