Women’s BasketballDU 61, NORTH TEXAS 48

The Pioneers (15-14, 10-8 SBC) clinched the No. 3 seed in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament and a bye for the first round after Sunday’s win.

“It was a great way to close out the regular season at home,” head coach Erik Johnson said.

Denver honored their four seniors prior to the game: Sara Bents, Nnenna Akotaobi, Celena Otero and Andie Mason.

The Pioneers will travel to Hot Springs, Ark. Saturday, March 7 to take on either No. 6 Arkansas State or No. 11 North Texas in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

Men’s TennisDU 5, Oregon 2

The No. 52 men’s tennis team defeated Oregon on Sunday at the Stapleton Tennis Pavilion. The Pioneers improved to 7-6 this season.

Denver’s Martin Zimmerman, David Simson, Benny Althaus and Yannick Weihs claimed singles victories. The Zimmerman-Simson team and Weihs-Gunnarsson team also claimed wins for the Pioneers. The Pioneers dominated at singles taking No. 1-4.

“It is very nice to get a win before we take a few weeks off from dual play,” head coach Danny Westerman said.

Men’s tennis’ next match will be on the road in Irvine, Calif. on March 21 against University of California-Irvine.

Men’s LacrosseDU 9, Towson 4

The No. 16 men’s lacrosse team defeated the Townson Tigers (1-2) in the championship game of the Harrow Face-Off Classic at home.

Leading the Pioneers was Joey Murray, with two goals, and Charley Dickenson, who tallied two assists. Freshman Alex Demopoulos scored five goals and one assist for six points. Dillon Roy was named Harrow Face-Off Classic MVP for causing five turnovers as a result of his defensive efforts. Before playing Townson, Denver (3-1) defeated Sacred Heart University (0-3) 15-8.

The Pioneers are on the road this weekend, taking on Penn State and No. 13 Brown University.

Women’s TennisDU 7, Colorado 0

The No. 34 women’s tennis team won their sixth consecutive match with a 7-0 win over in-state rival the University of Colorado at Stapleton Tennis Pavillion.

Denver captured singles with win’s by No. 65 Mallory Voelker, Julia Bauregger, Anette Aksdal, Ute Schnoy, Kyla Iwinski and Bhavani Tirumurti. In doubles, Voelker and Bauregger claimed the No. 1 match with an 8-6 win. The Pioneers are now 7-3 in the season.

DU will travel to California this week to take on Cal, Long Beach State and UC Irvine beginning Thursday.

Women’s LacrosseDU 8, Georgetown 12

The No. 20 women’s lacrosse team was defeated in Washington D.C. on Sunday afternoon by No. 7 Georgetown University.

Pioneer Lexi Sanders had a hat trick and five shots on goal. Ali Flury, Megan Carver, Steph Coyne and Karen Morton each added one point to the final score. Substitute Tulley Stapp also scored one goal after only taking two shots.

The Pioneers have a week off before playing North Carolina on Monday, March 9 at 4 p.m. in Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.

GymnasticsDU 193.700, PITTSBURGH 194.725

Despite taking second, senior All-American Jessica López received her fourth all-around title with a 39.400.

Ellen McCarthy, Louise Mercer and Brianna Springer claimed the top three performances on the uneven bars. On vault, López took first followed by senior Lauren Garan in second. The Pioneers are now 11-7 in the season, with an average meet score of 194.313.

Denver will continue on the road, traveling to compete against Arizona on Saturday before hosting Brigham Young University at home on Monday, March 7 at 7 p.m. This will be the Pioneers final home meet of the season.
