Men’s Soccer
DU 2, High Point 10
In their second game of the weekend, the Pioneers found redemption from their previous loss in their 2-0 victory over High Point University. The freshman duo of Forward Sam Garza and midfielder Jared Stigall led the Pioneers to victory with their two combined goals, despite poor weather conditions.
The Pioneers head to Omaha, Nebraska next Saturday to take on the Creighton University Bluebirds in their third game of the spring season.
Men’s Lacrosse
DU 12, Bellarmine 9
Men’s lacrosse started league play this season with a 12-9 victory on Sunday afternoon at the Owsley B. Frazier Stadium in Louisville, Ky.
Freshman Mark Matthews established himself in the league with a game high five goals and one assist.
Todd Baxter also made his mark with three goals and one assist.
Denver next plays Quinnipiac on Saturday, April 4 in Hamden, Conn.
Men’s Tennis
DU 3, Middle Tenn. 4
The Pioneers couldn’t pull out a win on Friday night at the Colorado Athletic Club. Yannick Weihs, Andrew Landwerlen and Ravjot Dhatt won the only three Pioneers singles points, the rest went to the Blue Raiders.
The doubles point also went to Middle Tennessee who won two of the doubles matches.
The No. 3 duo of Weihs and Landwerlen won the other doubles match.
Denver heads to the Sun Belt Shootout in Tennessee this Friday through Sunday.
Women’s Lacrosse
DU 11, California 10
The pioneers bettered their record to 8-4 with their victory on Saturday afternoon.
Denver had two players tied for the leading scorer. Ali Flury and Steph Coyne both recorded hat tricks.
Karen Morton had a goal and is now only two points away from the DU all-time record of 231.
The Pioneers finish their home schedule at Barton Stadium against Oregon on April 4 at 1 p.m., when Denver will honor its senior players for a final time.
Women’s Tennis
DU 7, Montana 0
No. 30 Denver swept the second team in a row over the weekend at Pinehurt Country Club. With these matches, the Pioneers have increased their winning streak to four and record to 12-4 overall.
“Weekends like this have become a habit for us,” Bhavani Tirumurti said. “All of the girls are doing a great job of managing themselves in their matches. We did what Pios would do. Vamos Pios!”
Women’s tennis will be at home against Utah on April 8 at Stapleton Tennis Pavilion.
