Elections in the Arab world

The Joseph Korbel School of International Studies will present speaker Andrew Barwig on “Rules and Rulers: An Institutional Explanation of Regime Durability in the Arab World” today at noon in room 301 in Ben Cherrington Hall.

The discussion will center on the recent elections in the Arab world in relation to the durability of authoritarianism in the region.

Chaplain leads book discussion

University chaplain Gary Brower will host a book discussion on From Brokenness to Community by Jean Vanier today from noon to 1 p.m. in the suite 29 conference room at the Driscoll Student Center.

The Rev. Greg Cummins, a former DU staff member and current clergy person from Montview Presbyterian, will join in the conversation.

Author to speak about Iraq war

The Joseph Korbel School of International Studies will host Peter Mansoor, author of the book Baghdad at Sunrise: A Brigade Commander’s War in Iraq, Wednesday from noon to 2 p.m. in room 301 at Ben Cherrington Hall.

Mansoor is also a professor of military history at Ohio State.

Registration for the DU Women’s Conference, which will be held Friday, March 6, opens this Wednesday. This year’s theme is “Her Story, Our Story.”

Panel on religion and relationships The Interfaith Alliance will present the panel “Religion and Relationships: How Different Faiths View Dating and Marriage” on Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Driscoll Gallery at the Driscoll Student Center.

Speakers will represent Protestant Christianity, Roman Catholicism, Judaism and Islam.

The panel is sponspored by DU’s Center for Religious Services.

Faculty panel on public good

The Graduate Student Association Council will host a faculty panel on what it means to be a private university dedicated to the public good on Thursday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Leo Block Alumni House.

The Korbel School faculty will be represented by Ted Zerwin.

Law lecture and guest speaker

The Nanda Center for International Law will host guest lecturer José E. Alvarez on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the Sturm College of Law.

Professor Alvarez will discuss contemporary international law as part of the Myles McDougal Lecture and Alumni Banquet.

The event is co-sponsored by Sturm College of Law and the Denver Journal of International Law and Policy.

Web technology event at Daniels

The Daniels Executive MBA Program will host “New Technology Meetup” next Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 6:30 p.m. in Davis Auditorium at Sturm Hall.

The meetup will feature four to six live presentations of new web technology by Denver companies. Over 300 Denver area entrepreneurs will be present for networking.

Dress is business casual, and students are encouraged to bring their business cards. Student seating is limited.
