With an excellent score of 14 under par, the DU men’s golf team finished No. 5 at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate Tournament, hosted by the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

The Pioneers competed on the Leilehua Golf Course at the Schofield Barracks, Oahu.

Denver’s team scores consisted of 291-280-279. After the second day of competition, the Pioneers tied for ninth place. Texas A&M came from behind to win the tournament with a 28-under par performance for a score of 836.

Danny Wax led the Denver team with a three-round, 7-under par score for a 209 (70-69-70). Junior Espen Kofstad finished tied for No. 19 with a 4-under par score of 212.

Denver men’s golf returns to the course on March 19-21 as it hosts the 2009 Desert Shootout at the Palm Valley Golf Course in Goodyear, Ariz.

On the ladies side of the ball, Denver is in third place after one day in the Wildcat Invitational. The Pioneers have 296 points after the first day, trailing just behind UCLA’s 287 but ahead of Arizona State’s 295.

Senior Dawn Shockley and sophomore Ellie Givens are tied for ninth place after shooting a 73 on Sunday. Freshman Sarah Faller finished one stroke behind Givens and Shockley with a 74, putting her in a tie for 15th place. The Wildcat Invitational continues in Puerto Penasco, Mexico until tomorrow.
