The Pioneer women’s soccer team continued it’s winning streak last weekend in Louisiana against University of Louisiana Monroe and Louisiana-Lafayette winning both games 2-1.

The games in Louisiana were Denver’s first Sun Belt Conference games of the season.

DU’s seniors and junior were the ones to stop last weekend. Junior goalkeeper Mackenzie Snyder had four saves last weekend and only two goals against her. All four goals were scored by seniors Jessica Keller and Taryn Hemmings.

Keller scored the first goal against Louisiana-Lafayette which was assisted by junior Mariah Johnston. Hemmings scored the second goal against Louisiana-Lafayette and both goals against ULM.

All goals to win the games were scored in the second half with both Louisiana-Lafayette and ULM up by one.

“Both games we had to come from behind to win. It shows good leadership, no panicking, and confidence in teammates,” head coach Jeff Hooker said about his players’ efforts and teamwork in Louisiana.

The games were the Pioneers’ sixth games in a row on the road and their first games in this season’s SBC.

“It [winning the conference games] was important to establish what type of team we will be in conference play…and winning two was key for us if we want to stay on top,” Hooker said.

The women have their at-home conference opener games this weekend against Florida International on Friday at 1:45 p.m. and Florida Atlantic on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. Both games will be on Pioneer Field.
