Former Pioneer Paul Stastny was selected for the first time to the NHL All-Star game that was held yesterday in Atlanta. Stastny did not play in the game though because of an emergency appendectomy that he had a couple weeks ago… Women’s soccer assistant Michael Thomas has resigned and was named the head women’s soccer coach at the University of Buffalo… The men’s swimming and diving squad won at UC Davis this past weekend 161-139. Junior Blake Worsley won three different events, including the 500-freestyle, 200-freestyle and 50-freestyle. Junior Daniel Vollmer captured both the 100 and 200-backstroke. Junior Nick Brunger won the 100-breastroke and 200-breastroke for the Pioneers. On the diving side of things, junior Aaron Freight won both the 1-meter and 3-meter events… The women were not as successful as they lost 157-141 to UC Davis. The Pioneers were not able to gain points on diving because of injuries to their two divers. Senior Kelsey Totura won the 200-freestyle and 200-backstroke for DU while Katy Motsinger won the 100-backstroke and 50-freestyle. Also Michele Lowry won the 1-mile… The DU men’s soccer team will hold walk-on tryouts on Feb. 3 between 5 and 7 p.m… Women’s basketball player Ashly Robinson is out for the season with a leg injury.
