News and Notes: Geoff Paukovich became the fourth Pioneer to leave the University for professional aspirations since the beginning of last season. He joins T.J. Fast, Ryan Dingle and Keith Seabrook who all now playing in some type of professional league. Paukovich signed with the Edmonton Oilers on August 8th after producing 24 goals and 25 assists for 49 points in 117 career games at DU. Paukovich an Englewood, CO native was chosen 57th overall in the 2004 NHL entry draft and signed a three-year entry level contract with the Oilers… Former DU hockey player and most recently volunteer assistant coach Matt Laatsch, left the Pioneer coaching staff to become assistant coach with the minor league AHL Portland Pirates on June 22. Junior Ryan Dingle who left the Pioneers in April to sign with the Anaheim Ducks played two weeks with the Pirates in April-May. Former graduate assistant with the USA Hockey National Development Program PJ DeLuca became Laatsch’ replacement on August 4… Former DU men’s lacrosse standout Ryan Zordani was selected No. 57 by Boston of the National Lacrosse League over Labor Day weekend… The men’s 2007-08 basketball schedule is headlined by road matches at Penn. State, Colorado State and tournaments at Oklahoma and Santa Clara. Home matches include Wyoming, Colorado and Northern Colorado… DU’s women’s basketball home matches are highlighted by Duke, Creighton, Columbia and Dartmouth. They will travel to Air Force, Nebraska and Wyoming among others…
