Constitution Day

Two events will be held today to celebrate the anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787. A “Hot Topics” lunch titled “What Are Constitutions For” will discuss why states have constitutions and what people think their role is. Students are encouraged to bring their own lunch or pick up a free meal pass before the event.

The second event is a preview of the film “The War” by Ken Burns followed by a discussion with World War II veterans and historians. The film will start at 6 p.m. in Davis Auditorium. Darfur discussion

A lecture titled “Darfur: What’s Happening Now” will be held on Thursday from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Cyber CafCB). The lecture will be presented by Carl Tinstman, a 30-year veteran of the United Nations. Tinstman was also coordinator for Lifeline Sudan, a conglomerate of UN agencies and NGOs that supplied South Sudan with humanitarian assistance. Breakfast with former Colorado governors

Students are invited to join former Colorado Governors Richard Lamm and Bill Owens to discuss key development and growth issues over breakfast on Thursday from 7 to 9 a.m. The event is sponsored by Daniels College of Business and the Burns Center. East Asian Forum

The lecture “Do Asians want Democracy? Findings from the Asian Barometer Survey” will be presented by Tianjian Shi on Friday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Prof. Shi has conducted extensive research on China’s grassroots political participation. He has been published in journals such as World Politics, Asian Surveys, and Comparative Politics. He is also author of the book “Political Participation of Beijing: A Survey Study.” The event will be held in room 201 of Ben Cherrington Hall. Students can RSVP by email to ccusc@du.edu.

Human security forum

The forum “Human Security; Global Solutions for the World’s Most Vulnerable” will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Sturm Hall in Room 281. Richard Gowan from the Center for International Cooperation will keynote. The forum examines the relationship between human securities issues, development and the environment.
