At the AUSA meeting last week, the senate discussed possible changes in SafeRide as well as filling the positions of both webmaster and director of marketing and records for next year.
The Senate heard from Jason Kendrick, SafeRide coordinator, about expanding the free bus service and the costs involved. The changes include renaming the service as the DU Shuttle and changing routes to include a stop at the recently opened light rail line on Buchtel Boulevard.
Senators discussed ways to make the bus service more student friendly.
“I think that the new shuttle should be promoted more during student orientation,” said Sen. Lindsay Griffin. “We should try to make it cool for students to ride.”
The AUSA also discussed the positions available for Webmaster and director of marketing and records. The two positions will have a close working relationship with the senate next year.
A webmaster will be hired to assist with the process of licensing and funding student organizations as well as maintaining web content for committees and boards represented by the AUSA.
The director of marketing and records will be in charge of keeping records of AUSA documents and legislation and marketing next year.
Applications for both positions will be accepted until Thursday. Top candidates for the positions will be interviewed next week when the hiring process will occur as well. For more information and an application, visit https://iris.cair.du.edu/ausasenate.
In other business, the senate debated ways to improve student participation at DU events after this year’s low turnout for both homecoming and the Winter Carnival. The Senate discussed having more events on campus to reverse the poor attendance.
“Our events shouldn’t be a welcome to our downtown bars,” said Vice President Megan Cartier. “It should be a welcome to our campus.”
Members of the Senate also suggested making DU’s annual events open to students of other colleges to make them more successful.
