Concert cancellations at the famous Red Rocks Amphitheater are party killers for any concertgoer.

Although Red Rocks is one of the most spectacular concert venues, the dreary sky on May 17 indicated a horrible rain storm that could possibly ruin The Killers concert that evening.

At least people only thought it would be rain.

It was enough for some fans to bail out. That was good news for Zaphne Kemp, a junior at DU, as she received a phone call offering her a pair of tickets for half price.

“It was awesome at first because one minute I was napping and suddenly I found out I was going to go see The Killers. I was so excited,” says Kemp.

As she rushed to get herself ready for the show, the sky no longer showed any signs of rain.

She raced to the venue just minutes before rock group The Killers took the stage.

The packed amphitheater roared as the band began its first song.

Darting down the aisles, Kemp finally found a spot to enjoy the show. But the music stopped soon after it began.

With no rain cancellation, the sudden break was shocking for many.

Suddenly The Killers were gone.

Bewildered fans stood in shock as a man came to announce that lead singer, Brandon Flowers, was experiencing vocal troubles and they were assessing the situation.

As minutes passed there was still no sign of the band.

Fans grew antsy but no one thought the show was actually over. When only one person walked back on the stage, boos and jeers signaled the announcement of the end of the show.

Brandon Flowers has been suffering from bronchitis, according to the Red Rocks Amphitheater Web site.

Not wanting to cancel any shows, Flowers attempted to sing against his doctor’s advice.

However, Flowers barely made it through two of the Killers’ songs before his voice finally gave out. He was urged not to sing for the rest of the night, forcing the show to be cancelled.

“Are you serious? I just spent the last hour frantically trying to get here for this?” said Kemp.

As disappointed fans clamored out of the venue, many wondered if they would ever get a chance to see The Killers live.

With such an outstanding venue and popular band, the cancellation was heartbreaking for many.

On Friday, a statement was released that assures fans that the show has been rescheduled to September 4 and their tickets will be valid for that show.

Refunds will also be available for those fans not planning to return for the second attempt.

Hopefully, next time fans will be treated to clear skies and a clean bill of health.
