Security in Iraq
A lecture, titled, “Providing Security in Iraq” is being held today from 12-2 p.m. The keynote speaker is Rob Perito from the United States Institute of Peace. Perito will speak about security issues present in Iraq.
The lecture is being held in Ben Cherrington Hall, room 301. Pizza will be served.
Stem cell research discussion
A DU Dialogue on stem cell research is being held today. The lecture is titled, “Are We Playing God? A Chalk Talk on Stem Cell Research.” It will focus on the details and ethics of stem cell research.
The discussion begins at 7 p.m. in the Centennial Halls classroom. Food will be served.
Big kid’s party
A big kid’s party is being held for all first-and-second-year students on Thursday. The event is meant to celebrate the end of the year and will feature games, prizes, pizza and candy.

Contemporary China lecture
The Jackson/Ho China-East Asia Forum is hosting Joseph Fewsmith, who will present on “Chinese Chambers of Commerce and the Limits of Civil Society in Contemporary China” this Friday. Fewsmith is a professor of international relations and political science and Director of the East Asian Studies program at Boston University. He is also a research associate of the John King Fairbank Center for East Asian Studies at Harvard University.
The event takes place from 12-1:30 p.m. in Ben Cherrington Hall, room 301. Pizza and drinks will be served.

Screening of “The History Boys”
The ISSS Film and Culture Series is presenting the British comedy “The History Boys” this Friday. The movie is about grammar schools boys trying to get into Oxford and Cambridge.

Performance group on Asian American youths
The Asian Student Alliance (ASA) is hosting an event that will feature a performance group that depicts societal issues Asian American youths face today. The event is called “Here and Now: everyone comes from a unique perspective” and is being held this Friday.
The event offers an opportunity to view many issues of diversity and hopes to promote an all-inclusive campus environment. The event takes place from 6:30-9 p.m. in Davis Auditorium.
Renewable energy panel discussion
The DU Sustainable Energy Society and Net Impact are hosting a panel discussion on research, policy and entrepreneurship in relation to the 20% Renewable Energy by the Year 2020 Initiative (House Bill 1281) next Tuesday, May 22. Panelists will answer questions about how we can reach 20% renewables by 2020 and what professional opportunities there are in renewables and the expected growth of that industry.
Panelists include Rick Gilliam, Jim Green and Black Jones. The event will be moderated by Jill Cooper, former senior advisor and director of sustainability for the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

Global health movie
The Global Health Affairs group and UCHSC are presenting “Salud,” a movie the global health issue, on Tuesday, May 22.
The film examines the good health care system in Cuba. “Salud” shows testimonies from experts around the globe and the stories of some of the 28,000 Cuban health professionals working in over 68 countries. It examines the competing agendas that define the struggle for global health and the fight to make health care a birth right.

Israel lunch lecture
Daniel Levy, director of both the New American Foundation Middle East Program and The Century Foundation’s Prospects for Peace Initiative will be speaking at a lunch lecture next Thursday, May 24. Levy has extensive experience working with policy in Israel. He was the lead Israeli drafter of the Geneva Initiative, an unofficial, jointly drafted Israeli-Palestinian peace plan.

Laughs for Leukemia
Laughs for Leukemia, a charity event to raise money for The Leukemia Society, is being held next Friday, May 25. Comedian Steve Hofstetter and a yet to be named opening act will be performing in Davis Auditorium.

Combating violence exhibit
An exhibit meant to encourage young people to question the root causes of violence in daily life and responding to them positively is being shown at the Hillel Center until this Friday. The exhibit, titled, “Victory over Violence: Quest for Peace,” was organized in response to the Columbine school shootings in 1999.
The Hillel Center is located at 2390 S. Race St. It is open until 5 p.m. daily, except Tuesdays when it will be open until 9 p.m.
