No. 47 Denver Pioneers’ women’s tennis team was defeated by No. 21 Boise State in Saturday’s contest at the Denver Country Club, making it their second straight loss.
Boise State came out aggressive from the beginning of the match defeating Denver in all three doubles matches and losing the first point of the match. DU was unable to overcome, losing four of six singles matches and ending the contest in a 5-2 loss.
Despite the unfortunate outcome, sophomore Annette Aksdal and senior Marisaa Mechem were the solitary singles match winners for the Pioneers. Aksdal defeated Bianca Jochimsen 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, and Mechem topped Tiffany Coll 6-3, 6-3 to give DU its only two points of the match.
Despite sweeping doubles against Colorado University, Denver’s women’s tennis team fell to CU 4-3 at the Monaco Tennis Club on Friday, April 6.
The Pioneers started the match well, sweeping all three doubles matches and earning the doubles point for Denver. Aksdal and freshman Ute Schnoy defeated CU’s Monica Milewski and Franziska Jendrain to lead the Pioneers to the doubles point.
Despite a hard fought match by Aksdal, attempting to win her 11th singles victory of the season, she was out played by Milewski 4-6, 6-4, 7-5. The only two Pioneers to win singles matches against CU in Friday’s contest were Schnoy and sophomore Kaja Smole. The Pioneers fell to 10-8 as Boise State improved to 13-3 on the season.
The Pioneers look to redeem themselves on Thursday, April 12 against Wyoming at the Stapleton Tennis Pavillion.
