The Pioneers lost a heartbreaker Sunday against the Ohio State Buckeyes. There was a sellout crowd of 2,019 at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.

The game was sent to overtime with the Pioneers trailing by two with two minutes remaining in regulation.

Joey Murray scored two goals in that time to tie the game at 9-9 as well as get himself a hat trick.

The fireworks at the end of regulation were not enough for the win though, as Ohio State got one past Hollingsworth in the final seconds of the first overtime.

The Pioneers trailed much of the game. At the half, the Buckeyes held a 5-1 lead and then at the end of the third they held a 7-4 lead.

Never giving up, the Pioneers continued to stay in the game, outscoring the Buckeyes 5-2 in the fourth quarter, three of which came within the final three minutes.

Murray had four points for the game, his lone assist coming in the first half and all three goals coming in the second.

Ryan Shaughnessy scored twice as did Jon Paulson.

Kyle Wiederstedt and Brandon Barcus contributed to the offense with a goal apiece while Ryan Zordani dished out the second of DU’s two assists.
