Race and violence

‘Born into Brothels’
Amnesty International is hosting a showing of the film titled, “Born into Brothels.” This film is about the lives of children prostitutes in Calcutta, India.

Talk to the chancellor
The Chancellor’s Roundtable will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. in room 1864 of the Driscoll Center. This roundtable discussion will be an opportunity for students to talk directly with Chancellor Coombe in an informal and casual setting. No reservation is required.
Media and murder talk
A lecture titled “Misogyny, Media and Murder” will be held on Thursday from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. in the Sturm College of Law, room 165. Dr. Jane Caputi will speak about serial murders, media coverage and public reaction related to gender equality. Peace Corps panel
A Peace Corps panel discussion will be hosted on Friday from 2 – 4 p.m. in the Graduate School for International Studies Cyber CafCB). Volunteers from Bulgaria, Ukraine, Peru, Kyrgyzstan and Cameroon will be speaking.
A Denver-based representative of the U.S. Peace Corps will also be available to answer any questions about the Peace Corps application process. This discussion is part of the GSIS Peace Corps Community’s celebration of National Peace Corps Week.
Guest speaker
The lecture titled, “Star Trek 2007: Leadership on the Enterprise with a Whole New Crew” will be presented on Friday from 1 – 3 p.m. at the Cable Center.
The guest speaker will be Steffie Allen, a business visionary, women’s advocate and civic leader. Allen is a 2006 inductee into the Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame. Contact Ann Sanders at 303.871.4820 for more information.
A Middle East lecture
The lecture titled, “From Tel Aviv to Rammalah: A Beatbox Journey” will be presented on Thursday, March 8, at 7:30 p.m. in Gates Hall.

Future of Europe
A conference titled, “The Future of Europe” will be held on Friday, March 9, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. in the Renaissance South Room of the Mary Reed Building.
This will be the launch conference for the new Center for the Study of Europe and the World. Several speakers will be present including DU professors Lisa Conant, Rachel Epstein and Martin Rhodes.

Project homeless help
Project Homeless Connect 4 is currently accepting volunteer applications. Project Homeless Connect 4 is part of the city and county of Denver’s 10-year plan to end homelessness in the Denver metro area.
Since its implementation in 2005, Denver has emerged as a national leader in homelessness initiatives. Project Homeless Connect 4 is looking for 800-1,000 campus and community volunteers to help make this a successful event. Visit http://www.du.edu/phc4 to register.
