Documentary at DUET
Al Gore’s documentary film, “An Inconvenient Truth,” will be shown in conjunction with the “Do it in the Dark” energy conservation competition between the DU residence halls. The competition will be led by group members from the DU Environmental Team (DUET). Matthew Taylor, a faculty member in the Geography Department, will lead a discussion following the movie about the implications of global warming and how students can conserve energy at DU. Information session
An Environmental Protection Agency information session will be held tomorrow from 12 – 1 p.m. in the law school, room 190.The information session will be led by Mike Walker, of the Enforcement Counsel for Administrative Litigations. Walker will discuss his career within the agency, job opportunities for new graduates, and how to conduct your job search to work in this organization. On-campus lectures
Various lectures will be held on campus in the upcoming weeks. The lecture, “Stem Cell Research,” will be held tomorrow from 5:30 – 7 p.m. This lecture will be led by Anna Sher and Christina Coughlin, two members from the Biology Department faculty.
The lecture, “Child Abuse Investigation and the Ethics of Removing Children from their Homes” will be held next Wednesday from 5:30 – 7 p.m. This lecture will be led by Jennifer Reich, a faculty member from the Sociology Department.
The lecture, “Your Character Counts,” will be held Monday, Feb. 12, from 5:30 – 7 p.m. The lecture will be led by Corey Ciocchetti of the Business, Ethics and Legal Studies faculty. These presentations are an opportunity to explore different major fields and ask questions. All the lectures will be held in the Nelson Halls first-floor conference room.
‘Melting Siberia’
The Center for Judaic Studies is presenting the documentary, “Melting Siberia,” about a Russian Israeli who attempts to seek out his long lost grandfather. The film will be shown tomorrow at 7 p.m. Contact Jamie Polliard at jpolliar@du.edu for further information.
‘Cherish our Children’
The Institute for the Study of Israel and the Middle East is co-sponsoring the “Cherish our Children Kick-off Event.” The Cherish our Children program builds understanding in the Middle East through cooperative education and sports. Communication lecture
The lecture, “The Three M’s of Leadership Communication: Medium, Message and the Messenger,” will be held this Friday from 1 – 3 p.m. in the Cable Center. The lecture will be led by Michael Sheehan, who will share his expertise of conveying values-based messages to the public. Sheehan has coached more presidents, vice presidents, cabinet secretaries, governors and members of Congress than anyone in the country. He is also called upon to help in critical business situations such as initial public offerings, shareholder meetings, hostile takeovers/defenses and corporate legal battles. Poetry reading
A poetry reading by Bin Ramke and Dara Wier will be held this Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Sturm Hall, room 451. Bin Ramke is the Phipps Chair of Creative Writing at DU and the editor of the Denver Quarterly. Ramke has taught at DU since 1984 and has published many books. Dara Wier is the author of 10 collections of poetry and her work has been included in recent volumes of Best American Poetry and The Pushcart Prize Anthology. Public good conference
The Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning is presenting a conference titled, “The Theory and Practice of Public Good Work.” The conference includes lunch and workshop sessions for students, faculty and staff.
