Bird flu presentation

A bird flu presentation will be held tomorrow, from 4 – 5 p.m. in the Ritchie Center Multipurpose Room.

‘Temp Odyssey’

Join the Arts and Sciences Passport and Partners in Learning for an exclusive DU Presentation of Temp Odyssey, by the Curious Theatre Company at the Acoma Center, tomorrow from 8-10:30 p.m.

From the Big Bang to the basement file room of a Seattle skyscraper, mythology and corporate absurdity collide in the epic adventures of Little Genny, a temp receptionist who believes she is the Goddess of Death, on a quest for the meaning of life.

Funny and fantastical, Dan Dietz’s surreal comedy was an audience favorite from last season’s ‘In The Works’ reading series. Admission is free. RSVP online at www.du.edu/studentlife/passport.

Lamont concert

Lamont students will play various pieces of music for their peers in the ‘Face the Music’ concert. Peers will give them constructive comments to improve technique.

‘World Trade Center’

DUPB movie this Thursday will be “World Trade Center” and will be shown in Davis Auditorium, Sturm 251 from 8-10 p.m. Contact Jim Coryea (jcoryea@du.edu) with questions.

French film

DU Francoscope, in conjunction with the International House, will be showing the French film, “Cache” Friday.

Native fashion

This Saturday at 7:30 p.m., DU will hold the Native American Fashion Show to showcase Native models, fashion design, jewelry and artists’ work.

Islamic challenges

An evening presentation called, “Changes in the Islamic World Post 9-11,” about the impact the events of Sept. 11, 2001, have had on the Muslim community worldwide is Monday, 6-8 p.m.

Professor Liyakat Takim will examine arguments of contemporary jurists who believe the formulation of Islamic law has been interwoven throughout political, cultural and historical circumstances since the eighth century.

Takim will discuss Muslim reformers’ call for a re-evaluation of traditional Islamic law and conclude the evening by talking about the ramifications changes in Islamic law would have in America.

Mexican consul

Latin American Lunch Series will continue this Wednesday, Nov. 15, 12-1 p.m. with His Excellency Juan Marcos Gutierrez, General Consul of Mexico.

He will lecture about current legal, political and economic developments in Mexico. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions and meet with the consul. The lectures will be given in Spanish. Free lunch will be provided. Located in Sturm Law School, room 155.

Muslim education

“Education and Gender in Muslim Societies” will be held Wednesday, Nov. 15, 6-8 p.m. and will explore the relationship between gender and educational opportunities in Muslim society with Professor Tahira Khan.

Khan will present research identifying gaps between female and male literacy rates and talk about the role of gender perception in schools in Muslim countries.

Khan will answer questions such as: How does a student’s gender impact access to educational resources? Do families provide different opportunities for boys than for girls? How does Islam mitigate or facilitate opportunities for education? The event will be held at Cherrington Hall Cyber CafCB). This event is free and open to the public. No reservations are needed.

‘Hustling Streets’

The Rocky Mountain Jewish Historical Society and Beck Archives will hold their annual meeting and luncheon titled “Hustling Streets” this event will have Ron Sladek, president of Tatanka Historical Associates for a slide-illustrated lecture on the Jewish Newsboys of Denver’s downtown streets in the early 1900s.

This lecture provides new information and historic photos of the newsboys, few of which have been seen by the general public. The event will be held Sunday, Nov. 19, 12-2 p.m. Space is limited, please RSVP to 303.871.3016 by Nov. 10.

Youth Symphony

Gates Concert Hall at Newman Center for the Performing Arts will hold the Colorado Youth Symphony Orchestras fall concert on Sunday, Nov. 19, at 3:30 p.m.
