Midterm R&R Night

Come to the Midterm R&R Night to study alone or with a group, eat a free late night breakfast, enjoy soothing live jazz bands, and relax with fellow students. Hunger banquet

Many people think that hunger is about too many people and too little food, but a college forum says no.

Come experience the statistics and be a part of the solution. The banquet will be held today, from 5:30 – 7 p.m. in the DU College of Law forum.

The suggested donation is $5 to $500, which will be donated to the Food Bank of the Rockies.

Fishbowl dialogue

The fishbowl dialogue will discuss the U.S. political party system, and whether it adequately represents U.S. citizens.

The dialogue will be held tomorrow from 7 – 9 p.m. in the Driscoll Gallery. This event is sponsored by the Center for Multicultural Excellence, Community Engagement and Service Learning, Partners in Learning, and Second Year Experience.

Author to speak at DU

Dr. Mark Albion, author and founding member of Net Impact, will be speaking on “True to Yourself: Leading a Values-Based Business.”

He will be joined by Robert White, Chairman and CEO of Extraordinary People, LLC, who has spent his career working with executives to develop extraordinary leadership skills, focus, alignment and commitment.

There will be a pre-event networking session before the discussion, and a book signing following the discussion.

Join Dr. Albion for this informative talk on how to put your values into practice. The discussion will be tomorrow from 7 – 9 p.m. at Lindsey Auditorium in Sturm Hall.

Internship session

Directors Nick Muller and Dale Trower from the Corporate Internship Program will give an overview of this program and discuss the application process.

Some of the participating companies include CoorsTek, Duke Energy, eCollege.com, Johns Manville, Lockheed Martin Space Systems, Qwest Communications and Roche Pharmaceuticals. Business Law Banquet

The Business Law Society is hosting its annual fall banquet. Come socialize and have dinner with business law practitioners and fellow students.

This event is a great networking opportunity.

Seats available to students are limited, so RSVP is on a first come first serve basis.

Driscoll re-opening

Students have expressed a concern over a lack of sufficient places on campus to gather. The AUSA Senate and the Parents Council have combined their efforts to raise funds for the Driscoll Student Center Commons Remodel.

This remodel will transform the Driscoll Commons area from an outdated, bland cafeteria setting into an inviting student gathering space, complete with food service, comfortable chairs, entertainment areas and conference style tables where students and student organizations can meet.

The grand re-opening is scheduled for Oct. 9 from 10:30a.m. – 1 p.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony, free food, prizes and music. The Commons will be closed from Oct. 4-8 for the remodel. Contact John Nichols at john.nichols@studentlife.du.edu or 303.871.3864 for more information.

Resources in the west

Roger Fragua, Deputy Director for the ‘Council of Energy Resource Tribes’ (CERT), will talk about inter-tribal concerns regarding energy projects on Native American lands.

CERT is dedicated to supporting member tribes as they develop their management capabilities and use their energy resources as the foundation for building stable, diversified self-governing economies (according to each Tribe’s own values and priorities).

Security Career Fair

The Graduate School of International Studies, Sturm Career Development Center, and the Future Security Professionals of Denver are co-sponsoring the Security Career Fair.

Students and alumni interested in obtaining career information, internships and employment are encouraged to attend.

Past participants include ANSER, the CIA, FBI, DEA and U.S. Marshals Service. Professional attire is recommended. This event will be located in the HRTM Building next Tuesday from 4 – 6 p.m.

Attorney discussion

Representatives from the Office of the Colorado Attorney General will be on campus to discuss employment opportunities and share their daily experiences as attorneys in this organization.

The Office of the Colorado Attorney General sets policy, oversees civil and criminal work, and directs major litigation. This presentation will be held next Tuesday, Oct. 10 from 12 – 1 p.m. in the Law School, room 190. Contact Cathy Salaz at csalaz@du.edu for further information.
