The third annual Lambda Chi Alpha Wiffle Ball Bash took place Saturday afternoon on the Campus Green, fundraising $300 for the fraternity’s philanthropy.

Close to 100 people gathered at 10 a.m. to kick off the bash, which lasted until around 2 p.m. The registered 15 teams comprised of both males and females took to the three fields set up on the green for tournament pool play.

Wiffle ball, a sport originating from baseball, is played with hollow bats and plastic wiffle balls with holes to slow their speed. Each team has four players on the field, contrary to baseball’s nine, and the bash included fields resembling smaller versions of baseball diamonds.

“Wiffle Ball is a sport that doesn’t require a lot of skill, and can be played easily on Driscoll Lawn,” said Lambda Chi Alpha member Joey Ham.

Each team registered for the tournament played in a guaranteed three games. The best teams from each pool advanced to the finals. Team This Year took the tournament’s victory, defeating Team Theta Chi in the championship game. The champions received free T-shirts as a reward for their performance.

The tournament’s festivities also included free Chipotle burritos, music, and prizes for participating players. Registration for the event cost each team $20. The cost benefited the North American Food Drive, the national charity for Lambda Chi Alpha. The charity feeds underprivileged families from across the nation year-round.

The tournament was successful, judging by the funds raised and the participant turnout. However, Lambda Chi Alpha has already started preparing for next year’s bash.

“We will try to plan a better day that isn’t so busy for many people.B We really want to reach out to the non-Greek community, as well as the Greeks on campus,” said Ham.
