Last week’s Senate meeting covered topics ranging from the new shuttle system and safety on Sorority Row to the senior gift and sports events admission costs, but saw no new bills or resolutions introduced.
The meeting began with the introduction of the new campus shuttle program which began on Monday. Students now have the option to take express shuttles when they have classes in buildings which are far apart. The new express shuttle runs from 7:40 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The old Safe Ride route will still be running. Sgt Banet was on hand to answer questions the senators had.
The Resident Assistants are going to be utilized to help spread the word about the new express shuttle. The new route will make stops at Centennial Halls, Sturm Hall, Johnson MacFarland Hall, the Campus Safety Center, Newman Performing Art Center, and Daniels College of Business.
The school and the Pan-Hellenic Council are working on making Sorority Row safer. They plan on installing cameras around Sorority Row and installing more lighting on the street.
Students running for positions with the Senate will be given the opportunity to speak 10 minutes with DU TV and 10 minutes with the Clarion to discuss their platform.
Senator Ryan Myers unveiled what the senior gift is going to be. It will be a pavilion by the Marry Read building and the Cherrington Hall. For $20 seniors will be given the opportunity to have their name placed on it.
Next year, all athletic events except for hockey will be free to DU students. There was some discussion as to charging for lacrosse but currently lacrosse will also be free.
The student section at hockey games is soon to be named by students. Voting for the name of the student section may take place during May Days or be placed on the AUSA Senate ballet during elections in May.
The Senate discussed the need for next years Senate to hire a web master to work on the AUSA Web site.
