For those who can’t miss an episode of MTV’s “The Real World,” the pioneer of reality television, the upcoming 18th season will hit very close to home.

That’s because the show about what it’s like when seven strangers stop acting polite and start getting real will be filmed in Denver.

MTV executives announced this month that the show, which has already been cast, will showcase the Mile High City during filming that should begin this May, the Denver Post reported. The housemates will live on the 1900 block of Market Street in downtown Denver inside a renovated building that recently held B-52’s Billiards. The location is close to popular Denver bars such as LoDo’s, and is in walking distance to the 16th Street Mall and Larimer Square.

The building, which is 21,000-plus-square-feet and will reportedly include a full basketball court and a hot tub, has already been gutted by construction workers and should be complete next month in time for filming to begin. Production will wrap before the 24-episode season premieres toward the end of this year.

“The Real World” is the longest-running reality television series, broadcasted for 14 years and 17 seasons. It has been filed in popular U.S. cities including New York, Boston, Miami, San Francisco and Philadelphia, as well as two seasons overseas in London and Paris.

It is reported that in its current season, the show has attracted nearly 100 million viewers.

“I’d like to think that Denver’s already ‘in,'” said Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper in a phone interview. “This is like having an opportunity for a giant billboard for the city. There’s no denying that this is one of the more influential shows on cable TV, especially for a younger audience.”

Colorado has recently gotten television exposure through CBS’s “The Amazing Race,” which featured Red Rocks Amphitheatre in its season premier. Denver and the surrounding areas have also recently been shown in documentaries on the Travel Channel and last year’s NBA All-Star Game.
