The typical Mexican luch menu focuses on tacos and burritos, with chips and salsa on the side.

Yet, there are several styles of Mexican cuisine since the Latin and Mexican cultures are diverse, harking back to different roots.

At Little Anita’s you’ll experience the splendors of New Mexican cuisine, which combines spicy chilies with less fiery, traditional family recipes. The restaurant was rated Best Breakfast Burrito restaurant in Denver by the magazine 5280.

Little Anita’s, located on S. Colorado Boulevard, has been serving the Denver area for the past 30 years. The restaurant’s dCB)cor has an adobe flair with its stucco walls and is brought to life by the lively music.

In a way, it felt as though I left Colorado and went in New Mexico for the evening.

Though the service is not formal, it’s defiantly something to write home about. The staff at Little Anita’s is friendly and willing to meet your needs.

At the same time, there’s no need to wait, since service is efficient and prompt.

Little Anita’s offers home-style, New Mexican food at a great price. Dishes are powerfully flavored with either red or green chilies from New Mexico; The chilies are balanced by melted cheese.

The menu offers a variety of traditional dishes such as enchiladas, chile relleno, sopaipillas and tamales with an average entrCB)e price about $8. The entrees are served with a side order of refried beans orSpanish rice and with a choice of red or green chile. The red chile is much more powerful than any variety of green chile.

The enchilada and chile relleno plate for $6.25 combines two of my favorite traditional items.

The enchilada was cooked to perfection with a soft corn tortilla. It was stuffed with cheese and out and covered in spicy red chile. The relleno was traditionally stuffed with cheese, battered, and then deep fried. This dish was accompanied by a side of Spanish rice and refried beans to “cool off” the spices.

Another favorite is the restaurant’s t pork tamale plate for $6.25. This dish was also served with rice and refried beans to balance the fiery flavor. The tamale was made with masa dough and stuffed with shredded pork.

Little Anita’s also offers its famous breakfast burritos for an average price of $2.50.

The breakfast burrito with chorizo is a wonderful combination that will have you coming back for more.

With every meal, Little Anita’s serves its famous sopaipillas, which is fried dough dusted with powdered sugar and served with a side of honey.

So, if you’re in the mood to try something new, or rather a new variety of Mexican food then try Little Anita’s, located at 1550 S. Colorado Blvd. Though there is no need for reservations, their number is (303) 691-3337.

If anything, the sopaipillas are worth the short trip to Little Anita’s.
