Engineers week

“The Master Machinist Competition” will be held all week until Friday. The food sculptures event will be today from 12-1 p.m. The egg drop competition will be all week until Friday and will continue until 3 p.m. Submissions must be e-mailed to efinness@du.edu or cadams3@du.edu by Thursday. “Look like your Favorite Professor or Student” day will be held tomorrow. Facutly will make students breakfast Thursday, 9-11:30 a.m. Events will close with prizes for winners on Friday from 3-5 p.m. The events for Engineers Week will be in CMK 309.

Bridges to the Future

The University of Denver’s Bridges to the Future series will host a panel discussion titled “Ethical Dilemmas and End of Life Decisions: Extending Life, Accepting Death” at 7 p.m. tonight in Gates Hall of the Newman Center for the Performing Arts.

The panel includes former Colorado Gov. Richard Lamm, co-director of the Institute for Public Policy Studies at the University of Denver; Dr. Jean Kutner, University of Colorado Health Sciences Center; Rabbi David Teutsch, Reconstructionist Rabbinical College; and Julie Nice, professor, University of Denver Sturm College of Law.

Following the discussion, an extended question and answer session will allow members of the audience to address the panel. All Bridges to the Future events are free and open to the public.

Fishbowl on patriotism

Tomorrow, from 7-9 p.m. at the Driscoll Gallery. The third in a series of fishbowl discussions will take a look at what it means to be patriotic U.S. citizens in the context of the war in Iraq. One fishbowl of students and one of faculty will share their views and perspectives on the topic followed by an opportunity for small and large group discussions.

Ballet ticket give-away

Nepal culture night

Tomorrow night from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. there will be a free Nepali Cultural Night at the India Oven Restaurant (2890 S. Colorado Blvd.) with an address by Krishna Napit, adjunct professor at the University of Denver Graduate School of International Studies. There will be a discussion on the political state of Nepal; a video shot by Edge-ucate CEO, Justin Kaliszewski, on his recent school-building trip to Nepal; and savory Nepali food. The night promises to make you feel like you are in Kathmandu!

The DUPB weekly feature film will be “Rent,” this Thursday, at 8 p.m. in Davis Auditorium in Sturm Hall. Admission is free for students.

Hot Topic Thursdays

Hot Topic Thursdays will have a lunchtime conversation with faculty on today’s current issues.

A different topic will be discussed every week!

On Thursday, Annemarie Vaccaro of LLCs, will discuss the “Future of Roe v. Wade.”

On March 2, Shaul Gabbay, Director of ISIME, will discuss “Middle East Peace.”

March 9, Susan Sterett, Chair of Polital Science will discuss “Civil Liberties in Wartime.”

“Pippin”

The DU Theatre Department presents the performance of the musical, “Pippin,” to be held in the Elizabeth Erickson Byron Flexible Theatre in the Newman Center of performing Arts with eight performances: Feb. 23, 24, 25 and March 2, 3, 4 at 8 – 10 p.m., and March 4 and at 2 p.m.

Tickets are free for the DU community on the opening weekend only with a DU ID card. Tickets for the general audience are $15, $12 for students, handicapped, seniors, military and alumni. Student “rush” tickets for day of performance are $8 with a school ID.

African Extravaganza

The third annual African Extravaganza, a celebration of African culture, will be held in the Driscoll Center North Ballroom this Friday, Feb. 24, from 6 – 9 p.m.

PeaceJam needs you!

May 17-18, DU will once again host the PeaceJam Youth Conference.
