SOC Summit

The School of Communication will hold the Summit 2006 from Wednesday to Friday at The Cable Center on the DU Campus. Visit soc.du.edu for more information.

DUPB weekly movie

This Thursday night’s free movie, will be “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.”

The movie starts at 8 p.m. in the Davis Auditorium in Sturm Hall.

Mustache Bash

On Thursday the 2nd Annual Mustache Bash is being put on by Lambda Chi Alpha at the Gothic Theatre. Doors open at 8 p.m.

Kinetx will perform at 9 p.m. and Boogie Machine will perform at 11:30 p.m.

Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door. Tickets can be bought on Driscoll lawn all week up to the event, or at the Gothic or on ticketweb.com.

T-shirts are also going to be sold in the week leading up to the event.

Last year the event raised $3,000, benefiting the National Sports Center for the Disabled, based in winter park.

Hot Topic Thursdays

Hot Topic Thursdays will have a lunchtime conversation with faculty on today’s current issues.

A different topic will be discussed every week.

On Thursday, Shaul Gabbay, Director of ISIME, will discuss “Middle East Peace.”

March 9, Susan Sterett, Chair of Political Science, will discuss “Civil Liberties in Wartime.”

Students are encouraged to bring a lunch and discuss the current events that are going on around us.

It is an opportunity to share your opinion with peers and DU faculty.

“Pippin”

The DU Theatre Department continues its presentation the performance of the musical, “Pippin,” held in the Elizabeth Erickson Byron Flexible Theatre in the Newman Center of performing Arts with four remaining performances: March 2, 3, 4 at 8 – 10 p.m., and March 4 and at 2 p.m.

Tickets are free for the DU community on the opening weekend with a DU ID card.

Tickets for the general audience are $15, $12 for students, handicapped, seniors, military and alumni.

Student “rush” tickets for day of performance are $8 with a school ID.

The Newman Center for the Performing Arts is located at South University Blvd at Illif Ave.

Entrance to theatre is on the York Street side of the building.

There is free 15-minute parking in the parking garage in the Newman Center. Parking garage located on Wesley Street.

Judaic music

The Center for Judaic Studies at the University of Denver will host a performance by Composer, violinist, and oud player Yair Dalal and on drums Ty Burhoe on Sunday at 7 p.m. in Davis Auditorium in Sturm Hall. Free to University of Denver students with student ID.

Ballroom dancing

Want to learn ballroom dancing? You can be an advanced dancer or not have a clue about moving your feet.

Come check out DU’s Ballroom Dance Club every Sunday 3-5 p.m. in Studio A&B, the 3rd Level of Ritchie Center.

The instructor of class has over 25 years of experience in all types of competitive and social dance: tango, samba, waltz, salsa, rumba and more.

Attend classes for the next three weeks at no cost. If you like it, enroll for only $40 for the remainder of the year.

Wear comfortable clothes and dancing shoes if you have a pair. If not wear anything that you have but try to stay away from sneakers/running shoes because they have traction.

Come learn this and more at the Students for Positive Social Change showing of “Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Prices” this on Wednesday, March 8 in Davis Auditorium in Sturm, from 8-9:30 p.m.

Sexual assault awareness

“Sexual Assault Awareness Week” (SAAW) will occur across DU from April 3-7.

This will be a week of activities and programs dedicated to ending sexual violence on our campus and in our society.

“Take Back the Night” will also be held as part of SAAW in conjunction with the Undergraduate Women’s Council in the evening on Wednesday April 5 on the Campus Green (Times TBD).

A speaker will be present on the Campus Green followed by a march around campus to “take back the night” and a candle lighting ceremony in support and memory of the thousands of survivors of sexual assault.

PeaceJam needs you!

May 17-18, DU will once again host the PeaceJam Youth Conference.

This unique event brings together over 300 high school youth who are committed to working for positive change in their schools, communities and the world. Organizers are looking for 30-50 DU students to be mentors. For applications, contact Karen Benson at kbensen2@du.edu.
