Have you ever wanted to get on the ice with the two-time national hockey champions? If so, your chance has finally come.

As part of Winter Carnival, DUPB is giving students, faculty and staff the opportunity to show off their skating skills along side the members of the men’s hockey team on Jan. 31.

Skates will be available to rent in Joy Burns Arena and the event runs from 7:30-9 p.m. Hot chocolate and apple cider will also be served to warm up those who come out to participate and support the hockey team.

Matt Carle, one of the captains on the hockey team this year, is looking forward to connecting with some of the fans that come out to support the team.

“It is always nice to be able to give back to the fans that support us

throughout our season,” said Carle,

“Being able to play in front of 6,000 people every game is a lot of fun and a huge advantage when opposing teams come to play

against us, so we are very thankful for their (the fans) support.”

Geoff Paukovich, another member of the defending national championship team, shares Carle’s sentiment. “Its a good way for us to meet our fans and give some time back to them,” said Paukovich.

Winter Carnival is a much anticipated DU tradition that is Jan. 29 – Feb. 4. The weekend culminates with a trip to Keystone ski resort. Other Winter Carnival activities include a talent show, a chili cook-off, and special screening of Warren Miller’s “Higher Ground” film.
